Anthropocentrism vs. biocentrism and Christianity

Christianity holds that God created men and women as rulers over the natural world and gave us the responsibility to be earth's stewards. However, we have largely taken advantage of this responsibility and have wreaked havoc upon the planet. Other religions like Hinduism hold that we are all a part of creation, each creature with equal value. if all creation is as valuable as human life it seems we could have a much more harmonious relationship with the world and with each other. But it seems that Christianity puts the human first. How does this perspective shape, damage or hinder our desire/ willingness to care for the planet, especially now given the environmental crises we face?
